1. CREATE COMIC STRIP STORIES TO PRACTICE NEW FOREIGN LANGUAGES:

Filling in the talk and thought balloons provides a fun, painless way of reinforcing new vocabulary words and grammar, and it is easy to fill in the talk and thought balloons with text. For ideas for creating comix, go to our Comic Starters page or to our Story Ideas page

2.TRY OUR ‘GIVE ME WORDS’ feature:

All you need to do is use the new words and phrases you are learning with the many talking heads shown and give them a voice to converse or sing to one another, and even to tell jokes and riddles in the new language. Use the talking heads, too, to practice writing dialogue which you can use for your stories or plays or for having real life conversations with other foreign language speakers. As an example you can practice for an interview by having one character ask you questions about yourself and have another character representing you give an answer. Or, use a talking head to practice the types of questions you might ask in finding your way in a new country, or talking with the doctor on your next visit or going shopping or eating in a restaurant. This helps prepare you so you don’t get flustered in real life situations.

As students become more confident and proficient in working with a new language, encourage them to keep a daily comix diary about their lives written in the language they are learning -- the more they write, the better they become.
