NEW! TRY THESE MAKE BELIEFS COMIC STARTERS TO BECOME AN ESCAPE ARTIST USING COMICS TO INSPIRE YOUR WRITING!
Dear reader,
For too many years I traveled each day for three hours on dirty, smelly commuter trains and buses from my home to work and back, and would look desperately out the window searching for an escape. Instead of seeing only dilapidated homes and broken cars along the streets, I used my imagination to pretend instead that I was gazing at the Amazon River, watching pink dolphins swim, palm trees sway, or even people fly with their own built wings in the sky.
Such is the power of imagination which allowed me to do this and survive those long rides. On the train, I also would write notes about escaping, which became a book, "How to Become An Escape Artist," excerpts of which appear below. I hope that these Escape Artists comic starters will spark your own imaginations, too, and let you soar away from the daily hustle-bustle. Remember, nothing is richer than your own imagination.
I welcome your feedback and suggestions for other writing prompts for this Escape Artists section as well as samples of your work to post. Write to billz@makebeliefscomix.com
Thank you and enjoy your escape.
Sincerely,
Bill Zimmerman

PRINT OR EMAIL YOUR COMIX AND ADD IT TO YOUR JOURNALING/ART PORTFOLIO. YOU'LL TAKE PRIDE AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL TERM!
- Click on a comic strip starter panel below that appeals to you.
- Your chosen starter panels will then appear as panels on the Create Comix! page.
- Then, name your comic or story title and fill in the author's name.
- The second panel portrays an escape artist drawn by Tom Bloom, and the third panel gives you a writing prompt about the illustration to spark your writing in that same interactive panel.
You can write there, as well as add a cartoon character to represent you in that panel with a talk and thought balloon showing your words. - If you need more space, you can add another panel or go to the Stationery icon in the bottom tray of the Create Comix! page to choose another writing cloud or a stationery sheet to set up a fourth or fifth panel. Don’t forget to fill in the author’s name slot as well as rename the comic if you wish.
- When done, you can print or email your comic and story to a friend or relative. You can also use the playful illustrations on this page as conversation starters for two-member teams of classmates or friends, with each person contributing ideas or lines for an accompanying story. Just let your imagination go!
